Darjeeling 4 Nights 5 Days Itinerary for First-Time Visitors
A practical five-day Darjeeling plan covering arrival, sunrise viewpoints, heritage experiences, tea gardens and departure timing.
Is five days enough for Darjeeling?
Four nights and five days gives first-time visitors enough time for the main Darjeeling experiences without placing every attraction into one rushed day. The route below assumes pickup and drop at NJP Railway Station or Bagdogra Airport. Arrival time, traffic, weather, Toy Train availability and hotel location can change the sequence.
Day 1: NJP or Bagdogra to Darjeeling
Meet the vehicle at the confirmed point and drive to Darjeeling. Keep the first evening light because the hill journey can take several hours. After hotel check-in, visit Chowrasta and Mall Road on foot if time and weather allow.
Day 2: Tiger Hill, Batasia Loop and Ghoom
Leave early for Tiger Hill. Sunrise and mountain visibility depend on weather and cannot be guaranteed. Continue to Batasia Loop and Ghoom Monastery, then return for breakfast. In the afternoon, visit the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, the zoological park and a nearby viewpoint, subject to weekly closing days.
Day 3: Toy Train and tea-garden experience
Reserve the Toy Train joyride in advance where possible because seats sell quickly in peak periods. The ticket should be shown separately in the quotation if it is not included. Later, visit a tea estate that is open to visitors and learn how Darjeeling tea is processed.
Day 4: Peace Pagoda, local viewpoints and flexible time
Use the fourth day for the Peace Pagoda, Japanese Temple, Rock Garden or another suitable local circuit. The exact combination should reflect road conditions and the traveller's walking comfort. Keep some time for cafes, local shopping and rest.
Day 5: Departure
Leave for NJP or Bagdogra with sufficient buffer for hill traffic. Do not schedule a tightly timed train or flight immediately after the estimated road journey.
What should a transparent quote show?
A useful written quote should state hotel category, room sharing, meal plan, pickup point, vehicle type, sightseeing, parking, driver allowance and taxes. Toy Train tickets, attraction entry fees and optional activities should be marked as included, excluded or payable directly. No undisclosed service charge should be added after written confirmation.
